Merle Linda Wolin

Merle Linda Wolin is an internationally recognized corporate trainer, executive coach and speechwriter whose work has spanned four different careers: publishing, journalism (print and broadcast), financial services and now corporate learning and development.

As a publisher, Ms. Wolin co-founded the award-winning U.S. magazine Mother Jones. As a print journalist she was nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize and the winner of more than 15 press awards of note, writing for publications such as the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times. She also served as a war correspondent in Central America for the Hearst Newspapers, based in Mexico City.

After moving to television in the 1990s, Ms. Wolin produced documentaries for networks such as the BBC and America’s ABC. Later, she was posted to Hong Kong to create and produce CNBC Asia’s MoneyMoneyMoney, the daily personal and consumer finance program that became the network’s most popular show, fully advertised and seen in 16 countries, from China to India to Australia.

In 2003, Ms. Wolin started North Star Training with a focus on helping corporate executives and staffs learn as she did, from the inside, to master the myriad skills of English-language communication, from good writing to good thinking to oral presentation and uncommonly solid research.

From August 2009 to January 2015, Ms. Wolin served exclusively as the speechwriter and executive coach to the Asia Pacific chairman and CEO of UBS, the Swiss global financial services firm. Today, Ms. Wolin continues her work with North Star across three continents: Asia, Europe and North America.
